Hey, my name is Mark Gibson, and I'm a singer/songwriter from Tulsa, OK, who recently transplanted to Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the years, I've been in solo and band projects that contained a wide array of sounds and influences. After the release of my first solo album, "Beautifully Deconstructed," (2012) which still contained major influences of bands like U2 and Coldplay, I decided it was time to define my own sound. My love for music began with the guitar, so it seemed like the right place to start. I quickly realized that when I just played for myself at home, I naturally gravitated towards the blues, and soul music. I decided to explore those sounds further. What I found was a more rhythmic and soulful approach to playing and songwriting. When I played and sang in that manner, it felt like I was coming home. I fell in love with the possibilities, and haven't looked back since. I released my sophomore album in 2016, "Blue Eyed Soul," and it represented four years of writing and playing the type of music that I loved. Throughout 2017, I recorded a few live shows at Soul City in Tulsa that became "Live From Soul City" (2018). The album showcases a seven piece band of wonderful Tulsa and Oklahoma City musicians that I'm proud to call friends. It's raw and emotive; everything you'd expect from a soul band. This isn't the type of soul music that James Brown defined, it's the type of soul music that comes from growing up on the plains of Oklahoma. Now I’m taking that sound to Cincinnati, OH, and I’m excited to be a part of its rich and diverse music scene. Touring the country is also on the horizon, but no matter where I travel, that Okie Soul will always be in the passenger seat.
