Tonight in the Revival Room at SGHR, Columbus post-rock band The End Of The Ocean will be stopping by to melt faces with their particular brand of instrumental atmospherics. From loud and pounding bass to soft and peaceful melodies, this band can do it all. They’ve been on the road, criss-crossing the country to bless audiences with some truly great Ohio music, and now they’re coming to us. We had a chance to chat with them to find out more about the band behind the music.
CincyMusic: I understand that you've been doing some national touring so far this year, but what else has 2013 brought for you?
The End Of The Ocean: At the beginning of the year we were selected as a "bands to watch" by Columbus Alive. We also have a new drummer, Robbie. And we're currently working on new material for a future release.
CM: The last time I saw you play was at Galaxy CDs in early 2012. How have you evolved as a band since then?
TEOTO: We've been touring a lot more since then so we've been getting a lot of experience and exposure. Over the summer we released a new album called In Excelsis and did a big coast to coast tour in support of the release. It's definitely been a lot of evolving for us. We've had to deal with some member changes and have been working hard to play shows and write new songs. It's been a great journey.
CM: Can you tell us a little about the new album?
TEOTO: In Excelsis was a really fun album for us to write. We had a lot of material that just fit into place and came together so smoothly. We were honored to have the album picked for top releases of the year by a good number of different online magazines and blogs. It's something that we are very humbled by. A lot of heart went into writing the songs for this album and knowing that it's appreciated by so many people, really makes it worth the hard work and sacrifices that we've had to make in order to make this band happen.
CM: For those of us Cincinnatians that don't make it up there much, what's the rock scene like in Columbus? What should we know about it?
TEOTO: Columbus is an amazing place for music. We have a really strong music scene and some really great venues to play. Sometimes when bands come to Ohio they tend to skip Columbus and option for Cleveland and Cincinnati. It's understandable in the way that Ohio is a smaller state but Columbus really has some of the best venues in Ohio and some great local bands that work really hard to keep the scene going here.
CM: What's your favorite show you've ever played?
TEOTO: We've played a great deal of awesome shows in Columbus. Some of our favorite shows have been on tour though. Chicago is always an amazing city to play and Seattle was really good to us when we went through there last time.
CM: What have you been listening to lately?
TEOTO: Third Eye Blind is probably the most listened-to band, especially when we’re out on the road. We always have some pretty classic sing alongs to them.
