WNKU has just announced they will be hosting the Heartless Bastards for a concert benefitting the public radio station on Sunday, August 4th at Greaves Concert Hall on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
This will be the second WNKU-produced concert this year. The station hosted Paul Thorn and his band earlier this month. In 2010, the Indigo Girls played Greaves Concert Hall as a celebration of both the duo’s and the radio station’s 25th anniversaries.
“We hope to get back in the habit of hosting our own concerts a few times a year,” said Station Manager, Chuck Miller. “We feel like we’re off to a pretty good start with Paul Thorn and the Heartless Bastards within two months of each other.”
WNKU has been playing the music of the Heartless Bastards since their debut on Fat Possum Records, Stairs and Elevators, was released in 2005. At the time, the band was based in Cincinnati and Rolling Stone magazine called them “a small-town band who are ready to show the big city no mercy." The band lived up to that prediction over the next several years by releasing three stellar records, all better than the one before, and touring throughout the United States and Europe. They’ve performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Austin City Limits.
The last time the Heartless Bastards played their hometown, they sold out two nights at the Southgate House Revival. Check out the photo album of that show here.
“We see no reason why this show won’t sell out,” said WNKU Music Director, John Patrick. “We have a very popular hometown band playing a great venue in Greaves Concert Hall at a fair price. Plus, it benefits WNKU!”
Tickets to see the Heartless Bastards at Greaves Concert Hall are just $30 including any and all service charges, and proceeds benefit WNKU.
Tickets are on sale now at Cincyticket.com, WNKU.org, all Cincy Ticket outlets, and by phone at 1-888-428-7311. It is an all-ages show.
