It’s time for the annual underground, do-it-yourself, insert adjective here gathering known as Cropped Out. Hosted by Cincinnati’s brother from a southern mother (a.k.a. Louisville), Cropped Out specializes in highlighting all the hidden gems from the local and regional music and arts scene.
It’s a celebration of things rarely celebrated. A three-day get together featuring live music, magicians, and artists, alongside local record vendors and food trucks that - since its inception four years ago - has remained somewhat of an anomaly in the crowded summer festival scene. Its emphasis has remained local, focusing on regional bands as opposed to trying to bring in larger, more national acts. And unlike its pricier brethren (SXSW, Pitchfork, Coachella, etc.), Cropped Out has managed to stay free of corporate interaction and interference. It remains a truly independent, one-of-a-kind scene.
This year’s iteration will continue to veer slightly to the left, bringing in the likes of Lambchop and Mayo Thompson alongside the oft-inebriated and always-lapeled Tony Clifton, who will serve as emcee.
It’s all happening this weekend (Sept. 27th -29th) in Louisville, KY. So if you’re looking for a truly unique experience that will open your eyes to all the wonders the local Kentucky music scene has to offer, head on down about 100 miles southwest.
