Mark Olsen at The Southgate House Revival

It’s been three years since Mark Olson, founder of the legendary Americana band The Jayhawks and critically acclaimed artist, released his 2010 album Many Colored Kite. Mark Olson left the Jayhawks after a stormy decade of mounting success and ventured out on his own to continue pursuing his vision of honest, earthy Americana music.

Many Colored Kite, released on Rykodisc, was a New York Times critics pick and received rave reviews for its autobiographical, poignant songs. Produced and engineered by Beau Raymond (Devandra Banhard, Little Joy), the album featured the soaring, ethereal harmonies by Olson’s wife and musical partner, Ingunn Ringvold.

Later that year Olson reunited with the classic Jayhawks lineup to record and then release the lauded Mockingbird Time in 2011 (on Rounder Records) – the first Jayhawks album featuring Olson since their 1995 masterpiece, Tomorrow the Green Grass. Olson and the Jayhawks toured throughout the US and Europe in 2011-2012 in support of Mockingbird Time.

Mark Olsen is on tour in November previewing new material for a forthcoming album as well as favorites from his most recent release Many Colored Kite (2010) and The Jayhawks. He’ll perform as a duo with his wife/musical partner, singer and multi-instrumentalist Ingunn Ringvold.

Most of these new songs we’re written in such disparate regions as South Africa and Armenia, and feature a variety of instruments typically associated with world music, like the Qanun and Djembe.
