Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati based band, Arlo McKinley and The Lonesome Sound will be releasing their much anticipated debut album on April 19, 2014 at The Southgate House Revival. The celebration will take place in the same room where the recording was tracked live, on a Sunday, in late February. The Southgate House Revival is housed in the former Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, which was built in the late 1800s. The band recorded live in the upstairs room, known as The Revival Room. It was originally used for Sunday school and has elevated ceilings and a great stage, where Christmas Pageants used to take place. Producer, Kelly Thomas, suggested utilizing the space due to the great acoustics and the special reverence local musicians have for the venue. All songs were tracked live, with Engineers Elton Clifton and Brian Jester, only a few harmonies were added at another session at New Fidelity Studios. The album has a very open sound, as a result of the location, and it really adds to the overall feel of the record.
Arlo McKinley & The Lonesome Sound was formed in 2011 and played their first show at The Original Southgate House. The band has had a few changes in personnel over the last few years but ultimately found the perfect mix of musicians for Arlo’s songs just in time to record this album. The songs, and maybe more importantly, Arlo’s captivating tenor voice draw you in, with the perfect backdrop of; Tyler Lockard (Upright Bass), Brian Pumphrey (Drums), Sarah Davis (Keys and Vocals), Zach Thomas Rowe (Lead Guitar) and Sylvia Mitchell (Fiddle, Viola and Harmonica). The ten songs are truly an “album” and they flow together and take the listener on great ride that you don’t want to end.
