Ohiolina Music Festival, a celebration of the music and culture rooted in the I-77 corridor from Ohio to North Carolina, features some of the region’s most beloved musicians and culinary talent. The festival will include 11 performances held on an 85-acre Mount Vernon family farm on August 30.
Among the highlights of this year's festival, the line-up will feature a combination of old-time, rock n’ roll, and true country music with the talents of the Hackensaw Boys, a band where “everyone sings a bit of lead, a bit of harmony, and most members know when to shut up.” The Hackensaw Boys’ extensive instrumentation of banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, upright bass, and trap kit bring the sounds of the old southern style to the fest. The Spikedrivers, a Midwestern band with “an addictive blend of blues, rock, and Americana,” and the Cincinnati-based Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle will also be headlining the 2014 Ohiolina stage.
The full line-up for the festival includes many favorites playing on two stages throughout the day-long event—Ohiolina 2014 is excited to feature the Shelf Life String Band, Rabbit Hash String Band, The Mighty Troubadours, Eric Sommer, Buckles and Boots, Noah Shull, The Ginger Lees, and The Noodlers.
“We’re pleased to be building on the success and momentum of last year’s festival,” said founder Chris Koenig. “There is a craving for this style of music, and both greater Columbus and the Knox County community has embraced our mission, which has propelled us forward. This year our festival has more than double the number of bands, two stages, and many more activities for kids and adults as well.”
Alongside the sounds of Appalachian bluegrass folk, the festival offers a range of food trucks and sweet treats that correspond with the regional themes: barbeque, ice cream, homemade pies, fudge, and much more, all honoring the tradition of the farm-to-table histories of the region. For family fun, a goat petting zoo, and activities provided by the SPI (Science Play-Space Initiative of Knox County) will be on-site. The event is also a great place for music enthusiasts of all ages-- patrons can expect plenty of grass for a picnic blanket and great view of the stage, as the venue is an intimate natural amphitheater made of trees, surrounded by 85 acres of farmland.
Ohiolina is made possible in part by the support of the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County. Doors will open at 11 a.m. on August 30, and musical acts will begin at noon, playing through 11 p.m. The event is open to all ages. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket goes back to the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County, to support arts education.
