Lowland Hum is an indie-folk duo out of North Carolina who released their second full-length album on April 14th. Their sound strikes a wonderfully tasteful balance of instrumentation, atmosphere, and haunting melody that's reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens or Beach House. They just premiered a new music video on Nerdist, and were recently featured on NPR's All Songs Considered, following their excellent Tiny Desk Concert. They had a successful release day on the 14th, with Lowland Hum hitting the top-ten on iTunes’ “singer/songwriter” genre chart.
Daniel and Lauren Goans began performing as Lowland Hum not long after they married in 2012, and quickly became known for the communal and artistic atmosphere of their live shows. Illuminated installations, hand-bound lyric and art books made their way into the duo’s performances, incorporating Lauren’s background in visual art. Her artisanal work also found its way into their hand-made album covers, as well as a their unique take on Valentine's Day. Lowland Hum have even offered up locally-baked bread as part of the audience experience. This mix of homespun artistry and hospitality serves the band's goal of bringing their audience into their own shared space and, as Daniel has said, "remove the 'transactional' nature of the artist / listener relationship."
Catch them tonight at The Southgate House Revival!
