Los Angeles indie group, Family Of The Year, are opening for Awolnation at Bogart's tonight!
With their Billboard radio chart debut, Family Of The Year saw "Hero" reach #1 on the Triple A Top 30 Radio Chart, sitting Top 5 for a record-breaking four months. “Hero” also landed Top 10 at Alternative Radio and is currently climbing the Hot AC radio chart. With the release of Loma Vista, Family Of The Year performed “Hero” on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CONAN and Last Call With Carson Daly. A new album is set for release in 2015 (tba) and the group has already started to debut a few tracks from it at the shows. Formed in 2009, Family Of The Year is Joe Keefe (lead vocals, guitars), Sebastian Keefe (drums, vocals), James Buckey (guitars, vocals) and Christina Schroeter (keyboards, vocals).
We sat down with Christina prior to the show!
What inspired the song, “Hero”?
Hero was inspired by not wanting to be a leader, not wanting to feel all the pressure that comes with being in a band. It can be scary out there when you're expected to be role models when you still feel so regular and have so many role models of your own.
What can one expect at a live Family Of The Year show?
Most of our fans who have only heard hero will find a lot more rock n roll in our set. It's too fun not to hit it hard live.
Any advice for local musicians in Cincinnati?
Just keep on doing it! Everything takes forever, and still does for us. perseverance is key. And willing to give up everything for music... It's so fun and is a total dream but is a lot of hard work and it's important for everyone to get along and work together. It's sort of a gnarly fun crazy business marriage art project.
What is next for Family of the Year?
We just released our new single, "Make You Mine" which we are verrrry excited about. It's a total summer jam. New album coming out in September and we can't wait to get all the music out there. Til then we will be playing some of the new songs live.
