Travis Meadows is performing at Madison Live on Saturday, March 24th in support of his latest release, First Cigarette. His songwriting is full of turmoil, redemption and striving for self-acceptance.
Rolling Stone Country recently said, “There are honest country-music songwriters in Nashville, and then there’s Travis Meadows…” It’s because 52-year old Travis is very open about having been through the wringer. By the age of 14, Travis had experienced abandonment by his parents, the loss of a sibling, and a near-death experience with cancer, in which he lost one of his legs. Travis found sanctuary in music, but for many years, drugs and alcohol became his crutch.
The flooring honesty of Meadows' music has earned him fans the likes of Eric Church, Wynonna Judd and Jake Owen, all who have cut his material. Songs like “Riser,” the title track for Dierks Bentley’s 2015 album, Church’s “Knives of New Orleans” and “Dark Side”; and Owen’s “What We Ain’t Got” are all Meadows-penned chart-climbers.
