Several southwest Ohio musicians are tuning up for a concert at the end of April entirely to benefit WYSO.
The second annual Sonic Springs is set for Friday, April 28, at The Brightside in downtown Dayton, featuring Lung, Speaking Suns, Heather Redman and the Reputation, DJ Fatty Lumpkin and more.
The event sprang from the mind and generous spirit of Eric Mahoney, a Yellow Springs filmmaker and concert promoter, in 2022. “I have been a lifelong fan of WYSO and thought that organizing benefit concerts for them could be a wonderful way to program great live music and raise a bit of money to help the station,” Mahoney says. “I'm also a big supporter of what The Brightside has built and felt it was a natural connection to host the events there where we can bring national acts as well as incredibly talented and interesting music from our own backyard to a great room.”
This year’s lineup is composed entirely of area artists who have performed live on the air at WYSO, adds WYSO Music Director Juliet Fromholt. “We're grateful to Eric Mahoney and The Brightside for their continued support of WYSO and the local music community.”
Doors open at 7 p.m., and all proceeds (above operating costs) will be generously donated to WYSO. Sonic Springs 2023 is sponsored by The Emporium and Underdog Cafe, Yellow Springs Brewery and Blue Core Technologies.
