Torres at The Woodward Theater

TORRES will be stopping at The Woodward Theater on Friday, July 19th with Bershy!

TORRES is a force to be reckoned with. Since her debut in 2013, the Brooklyn resident has captured audiences with her powerful voice and evocative songwriting. Her latest album, What an Enormous Room, recorded in Durham, North Carolina, showcases her artistic innovation. Featuring contributions from Sarah Jaffe, the album is a masterful blend of emotions and sounds that highlight TORRES' multifaceted musical talents. In the stand-out track, “Collect,” TORRES confronts themes of ambition, justice, and transformation with a commanding presence. The song’s lyrics explore the tension between expectation and reality, as TORRES declares “I know what you expect / You expect to be first / You claim what you didn't earn / Is that what you deserve? / Is that what you deserve?” followed by an epic repetition of "Did I hit a nerve? Did I hit a nerve?" and "I'm here to collect" underscoring the song's intense, assertive message. In a music industry historically dominated by men, TORRES' ability to craft deeply personal narratives as a queer woman makes her a unique voice in indie rock.

Cincinnati’s own Bershy is the dynamic alter ego of singer/songwriter, Brea Shay. Known for her infectious “gay pop music” and electrifying performances, Bershy brings a celebration of queer joy and authenticity to the stage. Her hit single, “Radio,” has surpassed 689,000 streams to date, a remarkable achievement for a local, independent artist, Bershy’s latest release, "4U," delves into the complexities of desire and vulnerability, with lyrics that paint vivid images of longing and introspection, singing “Tried to brush it off, I tried to write a song about something stupid just so I could get my head around you, swear I tried to fight, I tried to let my good side out, but it came out wrong, it only comes for you now.” With her compelling stage presence and commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere, Bershy is an exciting up-and-coming figure in Cincinnati’s independent music scene.
