Bofa Barter Night in Northside

Northside is a neighborhood known for its thriving creativity. Home to a tremendous amount of musical talent and visual artistry, it is an area full of local tastemakers. Both the visual and the sonic arts are frequently celebrated by the community throughout the year, and in recent months quite a few events have popped up that include both art vendors and live music. On Friday August 30th, music maestros Burrito Boys Booking and the new weirdos at WeirdCin Collective are teaming up to bring these two worlds together in a unique and potentially useful way. Both of them. Bofa, if you will.

Bofa Barter Night is an event in two parts, taking place in two adjacent spaces. The Comet (a storied Northside bar and concert venue) and Boxelder Community Room (an eclectic community meeting space) are both located in a strip of storefronts at the corner of Hamilton and Otte Avenues in Northside. At Boxelder, both musicians and visual artists can take part in a supply swap hosted by WeirdCin Collective. “All trades, no purchases, bring some stuff you want to get rid of and maybe you’ll go home with something you can use” organizers say. Attendees are also encouraged to bring anything they simply wish to donate. Art supplies will go to Indigo Hippo, a nonprofit art supply shop in Over the Rhine that provides secondhand art supplies at a significant discount and curates free community events.

At The Comet, Burrito Boys Booking will host a robust six-band bill stacked with unique local talent. Included on the show are the new doom/shoegaze act Sculptor, prog-punk legends Heist, experimental duo The Ganzfelds, psychedelic pop band JV Golf, electronic producer and songwriter Kelly Eryn, and garage punkers Cosmic Space Bunnies. This diverse lineup is intended to enhance the supply swap and bring a lot of different people from all over the community together. “The more we meet and talk to each other, the better our local events will be” said Burrito Boys, “you never know who might be out there doing something you want to be part of, and vice versa.”

The supply swap will take place from 6-11 pm. The show will begin at 7:30 pm and go until all bands have performed, approximately 12:30 am. Though purchases cannot be made at the supply swap, donations to the performers are always appreciated. Neither event requires a ticket, and both are all ages. Attendees are permitted to move back and forth between the two spaces but are asked to finish any drinks purchased at The Comet before proceeding to Boxelder. Per usual, The Comet’s kitchen will be slinging burritos throughout the evening and the fabulous bar staff will be providing libations to thirsty patrons.
